Ask for an itemized bill, then compare.

6 min read

Medical billing mistakes are common: duplicate charges, services you didn't receive, wrong codes, or insurance not applied. Checking takes time but can save a lot.

Steps

  1. Wait for the EOB before paying
  2. Ask the provider for an itemized bill
  3. Check dates, services and quantities
  4. Look for duplicates and things you didn't receive
  5. Compare your responsibility with the EOB
  6. Call the billing office with questions; write down names, dates and reference numbers
