Free preventive care
Many screenings and vaccines cost nothing in network.
Under federal law, most health plans must cover a set of preventive services, such as many screenings, vaccines and checkups, without charging you a copay or coinsurance when you use an in-network provider.
Good to know
- See HealthCare.gov for the current list of covered preventive services
- If a visit includes diagnosing or treating a problem, that part may be billed
- Ask when booking: "Will this be billed as preventive care?"
- Some older "grandfathered" plans may have different rules
